Poem for My Aborted Child

To Sylvana - 18 Years Later

In my heart I see your face;
the years, the toil, the joys, don't erase.
For once, years ago, I saw you playing in the sand,
now I see a young woman, diploma in hand.

In my heart I hear your voice,
softly you whisper, "Mama, I forgive your choice."
Then, heart filled with joy you worship the Lord,
the One who made you complete, healed, and restored.

In my heart I feel your touch;
I long for the reality of it, the imagining's not much.
So while the desire to hold you knows no bounds,
I'll continue to praise God - I was lost, but now I'm found.

In my heart I feel a rush of wings;
angels sent, telling of better things.
A reunion so sweet, so joyous, so true,
all await me in heaven when I meet you!
